History of Great Fishing
Clitherall Lake is noted for excellent fishing. Walleye, northern pike, large and small mouth bass, crappie, sunfish, bluegills and bullheads are caught from early spring through late fall.
A screened fish cleaning house near the boat harbor makes that chore a pleasure.
Clitherall Lake is a crystal clear spring fed lake with a varied shoreline and vast amounts of fishing structures. The maximum recorded depth is 96'.
The shoreline consists of sandy to sandy pebble beaches with several points consisting of rock shoals. This varied bottom provides excellent cover and superior fishing. Beginning in May, several shallow bays are home for GIANT BLACK CRAPPIES, that is, if you can keep the bass from biting first. Clitherall boasts of BASS populations four times the state average. The SMALLMOUTH BASS is trophy catch and release with good numbers of catches over 5 pounds. The lake's primary fish, the WALLEYE shares habitat with big Northern Pike and hearty Muskies. Clitherall has long been known for its spring fishing but fishing for walleyes and smallmouth in the late fall is some of the best fishing you will ever experience.
Large numbers of BLUE GILLS, 2 pound BULLHEADS, NORTHERN PIKE, and PERCH are all found in Clitherall Lake.
